Obituary for Gutierrez

Gabriel "Gabe" Gutierrez, age 82, was born in San Antonio, NM, raised in Magdalena and Socorro, and a 60 year resident of Albuquerque, entered into eternal rest on April 26, 2003 following a long illness with diabetes and cancer. Born May 2, 1920, he attended school in Socorro. At the age of 17, he enlisted in the Army during World War II. He had many professions including laborer, janitor, cook, construction worker, and he operated his own gas station business for many years. He ran the Beeline Gas Station on Central west of 14th street, where Duran's Pharmacy is now located. The Federal Government Civil Service at Kirtland Air Force Base employed him where he retired at the age of 65 as construction engineer. Gabriel was the loving and fifth child born to the late Jose Elias Gutierrez and Rafelita Maes-Gutierrez. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Damian Gutierrez, Precilio Gutierrez, and Luciano Gutierrez; sisters, Ida Gutierrez and Clara Gutierrez; sons, Eloy R. Gutierrez and Gabriel R. Gutierrez; granddaughter, Kristy Lucille; sisters and brothers-in-law, nephews and nieces. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Grace A. Gutierrez; two daughters, Reverend Lucille and her husband, Bill, Judy Sarabia and her husband, Reverend Jerry; son, Robert E. Gutierrez; grandsons, Terrance Richardson, David Sarabia and his wife, Nelda, Sammy Sarabia, Aaron Sarabia, Gabriel Sarabia, and Angel Gutierrez; granddaughters, Ruby Mustra and her husband, Earl, Rachel Sarabia, Priscilla Sarabia, Roberta Gutierrez, and Robin Gutierrez; great-grandchildren, Kristy and Kyle Mustra; sister, Mary Cordova; brothers-in-law, Delfine Rodriguez and Carpio Montoya; sisters-in-law, Mary Lopez and husband, Willie, Florinda Sandoval, Eva Rodriguez; and many nieces and nephews, as well as longtime friends Lorenzo Chavez, Gussie Booker, Andy Garcia, Benny Vigil, Norma Cigolle, Abraham Santana, Eloy Vera and wife Helen, Candelario Barela, Lee Pacheco, Charlie Tapia, Serilio Garcia and wife, Molly, and Seferino Saiz and wife, Mercy. A viewing will be held at Hillcrest Funeral Home today, 5:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. A Church Service will be held at PHCOG, Saturday, May 3, 2003 at 9:00 a.m., Reverend Lucille Richardson officiating. Interment will follow at Mt. Calvary Cemetery, 1900 Edith Blvd. NE, Albuquerque. Pallbearers will be Bill Richardson, Earl Mustra, David Sarabia, Samuel Sarabia, Aaron Sarabia and Gabriel Sarabia; Honorary Pallbearer will be Robert E. Gutierrez. The family invites you to dine and fellowship with them at PHCOG Fellowship Hall following Burial.
