Imogene (Jean) Montgomery Markham, 82, went to be with her Heavenly Father on Thursday, May 15, 2003. Imogene is the oldest daughter of Amos S. and Jennie M. Sillyman Montgomery. She and her husband, James Wayne Markham, Sr., who preceded her in death, moved to Albuquerque in 1944. Jean and Wayne were married 48 years and raised five children. As a family they owned and operated a working dairy farm for 20 years in the South Valley. She was a member of Rio Grande Baptist Church where she served her Lord in many different capacities. She touched many young lives in her twenty-five years as a 4-H leader teaching sewing, canning and handwork. She was a county extension club member for many years. She won many first place ribbons at the New Mexico State Fair for quilting and other handwork. After selling the dairy farm Jean taught sewing and crocheting at the Westside Community Center. After several years of teaching, she purchased Fun-N-Fabric, a retail fabric store, where she continued to teach sewing and sell fabric. Her five children survive her, James Wayne, Jr. of Albuquerque, Jerry Dean of Atkins, AR, Stephen Harvey of Tucumcari, Fanny Sue Day of Tucumcari and Wanda Jean Harrison of West Jefferson, OH. She is also survived by her four grandsons; seven granddaughters; nine great-grandsons; ten great-granddaughters; three great-great-grandsons; and sister, Juanita Montgomery Deis of Fresno, CA. Jean was preceded in death by two brothers, Mack and Rudolph. Services will be held Tuesday, 10:30 a.m., at Rio Grande Baptist Church, 2121 Gun Club Rd. SW. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Park, 924 Menaul NE. Pallbearers will be the Deacon's from the Rio Grande Baptist Church. Friends may visit French Mortuary, University Blvd. Chapel, Monday, 4:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be given to the Tucumcari Hospice Helping Hands, 615 South Second, Tucumcari, NM 88401.
