Virginia Lee Barham Sharp, born in 1925, a long-time resident of Belen, passed away on Tuesday, May 20, 2003 with her family by her side. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Belen, and the Pilot Club. In 1959 she was given the title of Ms. Belen and Ms. New Mexico and also competed in the Ms. America Pageant. She was preceded in death by her husband of 44 years, David"Coach" Sharp in 1988; her son, Greg Sharp in 1983; her daughter, Peggy Sharp Romero in 2002; her parents, Russell and Ethel Barham of Missouri; and her two brothers, Russell Jr.; and Hugh Barham. Virginia is survived by her three daughters, Racy Bowersox, Cher Sharp, both of Belen, Sue Henington and her husband, Rex of Los Lunas; her son, David B. Sharp, Jr. of Belen; her 15 grandchildren, Elisha and Dennis Peralta, Rachel Torres, Josh and Melissa Romero, all of Los Lunas, Michelle and Lauren Tanis, David B. Sharp III, MD, Erica and Phillip Clardy, all of CA, Jeff and Angie Henington, Brian and Shauna Henington, all of Rio Rancho, and Greg Henington of Las Vegas, NM; 14 great-grandchildren; her four sisters, Peggy Mason and her husband, Bob of NM, Jo Crawford of CA, Polly Contino and her husband, John, and Barbara Cook and her husband, Stan, all of FL; her three brothers, Bob Barham, Johnny Barham and his wife, Mona, all of FL, and Bill Barham and his wife, Janet of PA. Virginia is also survived by her dear friend, Bess Ashbrook. A viewing will be held on Saturday, May 24, 2003 at 10:30 a.m. at the Romero Funeral Home Chapel followed by a funeral service at 11:00 a.m. with John Kennedy officiating. Interment will follow at Terrace Grove Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Jeff, Brian, and Greg Henington, Josh Romero, Milton Barela, and Charlie Pena. Honorary pallbearer will be Benny Chavez.
