Obituary for Ballard

Alphonse L. Ballard, USAF Ret. Please join family and friends in rejoicing his passing into the hands of his Most Heavenly Father on May 21, 2003, after a long illness. Alphonse was preceded in death by his mother, Antoinette Pomerleau Ballard; and his father, Alphonse Louis Ballard of Millbury, MA. He leaves his wife, Marcelle of Albuquerque, NM; brother, Joseph and wife, Dorothy Ballard of Sutton, MA; children, Suzanne and Don Gann of Soldatna, AK, Michael and Twinkle Ballard of Indianapolis, IN, Kathy and Doug Wildfong of Centennial, CO, Gail Carter of Albuquerque, NM and Lise Brooks of Bernalillo, NM; grandchildren, Alethea Hudson, Bobby and Thea Gann, Cassie Gann, Mark Ballard, Heather Ballard, Nathaniel Carter, Sara Carter, Dawn Wildfong, Scott and Monica Wildfong; great-granddaughter Makayla; and many nieces and nephews. Alphonse was born June 20, 1922 in Millbury, MA. He joined the military during WWII and retired from the Air Force as a Chief Master Sergeant in 1963. During his service years, he acquired a GED and took continuing education classes through the University of Maryland where ever he was stationed. After his retirement, he continued his education at the University of CA Sacramento, where he acquired a Bachelor's Degree in Education. He moved his family to New Mexico and joined the Albuquerque Public School system in 1965 teaching French and English for 17 years at Del Norte High School before retiring once again. Not one to remain idle, he then began instruction to become a Deacon with the Catholic Church. Ordained at the Cathedral in Santa Fe in 1987, Deacon"Al" was assigned to St Joseph on the Rio Grande Church until he retired for the final time in 1998. Deacon"Al" was a husband, father, serviceman, teacher, advisor, preacher; and a man who served others in many capacities, He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him. A Rosary will be recited for him at St Joseph on the Rio Grande Catholic Church, 5901 St Joseph Dr NW, Albuquerque, NM 87120, on June 5, 2003 at 7:00 p.m. The funeral service, officiated by Chancellor Fr. Voorhees, will be held at St Joseph on the Rio Grande Catholic Church on June 6, 2003 at 10:00 a.m.. His cremains will be interred at Santa Fe National Cemetery.
