Obituary for Wilkening

Ruby B. Wilkening, a resident of Socorro, New Mexico, passed away on June 20, 2003. Ruby was born on July 21, 1920 in Cape Girardeau, Missouri to Edna and James A. Barks. She came to Socorro with her husband in 1948. Ruby had a bachelors degree from Southeast Missouri State University. She taught math and English in Missouri until her marriage. She was extremely active in the Socorro community. Ruby was very proud to have worked on many fund-raising projects. Her efforts notably supported the Santa Fe Opera since it's inception, the Socorro Public Library, Socorro community's environmental, historical and cultural causes. Ruby was also a member of the A.A.U.W. and the P.E.O. organizations. She was proud of her faith and was an active member of the St. Paul's Methodist Church in Socorro. Ruby was a very loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and friend and will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her. Ruby was preceded in death by her mother and father, Edna and James A. Barks. She is survived by her beloved husband of 65 years, Marvin H. Wilkening of Socorro; daughter, Laurel Wilkening and husband Godfrey Sill of Elgin, AZ; son Wes and wife Mary Wilkening of Albuquerque; sister, Norma Palm of Dallas, TX; granddaughter, Whitney of Albuquerque; and a host of very special friends. A memorial service will be held at the St. Paul's Methodist Church in Socorro at 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, June 25, 2003.
