Obituary for Chase

Col. Paul Norman"Ace" Chase, USAF Ret., flew his final flight in Albuquerque on June 25, 2003. He was born in Mississippi on December 19, 1935. Col. Chase is survived by his beloved wife, Barbara; daughters, Heather Chase and Cathy and husband, Dave Durrill; son, Aaron Roylance and grandchildren, Taylor, Rachel and Cole. Paul graduated from the US Military Academy, West Point, in 1957 and was commissioned into the U.S. Air Force. He served as an instructor pilot, fighter pilot in Vietnam and commanded several flying units ranging from squadrons to wings. He received many honors including the Silver Star, Legion of Merit, Distinguished Flying Cross, Bronze Star Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, Air Medal, AF Commendation Medal, Distinguished-Presidential Unit Citation, AF Outstanding Unit Award, Combat Readiness Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, and the Vietnam Service Medal. Upon retirement from service in Albuquerque in 1985, Paul worked for a defense contractor until 2001 and spent many days in the black world of the desert north west of Las Vegas, NV, improving the capabilities of military aircraft. Paul was an avid skier, tennis enthusiast, and an accomplished soaring pilot. Paul was serving as President of the Albuquerque Soaring Club. Memorial Services will be held Monday, 4:00 p.m., at the Kirtland Air Force Base Chapel.
