Obituary for Romero

Dr. Christian Romero, 65, of Cleveland, New Mexico, passed away July 7, 2003. He was the son of Moises and Fidelia Romero. Mr. Romero was a retired college professor, receiving his Bachelor's degree from the College of Santa Fe, his Master's from the New Mexico School of Mining and Technology, and his Doctorate from Oklahoma State University. He taught at Kansas State University, where he contributed to the school's bilingual education program. He also taught at New Mexico Highlands University, California State, Jemez Springs High School, and worked as an educator for NASA. Later in life, he returned to New Mexico, and worked as a volunteer fireman while restoring a vintage farmhouse. His passion was to ensure that children, regardless of their socioeconomic status, would have a chance for a better life through education. He is survived by his wife, Dahlia; daughter, Victoria Liguez and her husband, Lance; sisters, Priscilla Scarello, Lita Romero, Mary Ida Robertson; brother, Leo Romero; step-sisters, Aurora Chavez and husband, Processo, Mary Gonzales and step-brother, Max Salazar. Also surviving are various nieces and nephews. Rosary will be recited on Wednesday at 7:00 p.m. at French Mortuary - Westside Chapel with the Legion of Mary, reciting. Mass will be celebrated on Thursday at 10:00 a.m. at St. Joseph on the Rio Grande Catholic Church, 5901 St. Joseph Dr. NW, with Father Frank Prieto, Celebrant. Cremation will follow.
