Obituary for Reid

Sydney Elizabeth Bryan Reid, 75, passed away on Friday, July 4, 2003, following complications from surgery. She is survived by her husband of 51 years, Richard"Dick" Reid of Albuquerque; loving daughter, Marion Reid and husband, Chris Brooks of Colorado; devoted son, Richard and wife Shelli and their son, Adam Carlton Reid of Virginia. Other surviving family includes her sisters, Joanne Tulley of California and Sylvia Lowrey of Connecticut; and beloved nephew and niece, Fred and Sandra Tulley of California. She was preceded in death by her brothers, David, Walter and Frank Roberts. Born June 25, 1928, in Phoenix, AZ she attended elementary school in Phoenix, then moved to New York City to live with relatives. She attended middle and high schools in New York during WWII, and studied English at the University of Missouri, obtaining her B.A. degree in 1950. She and Dick were married on September 27, 1952 in Chevy Chase, MD; in 1958 they moved to Albuquerque with their two children and have since been residents of the city. Sydney devoted her life in Albuquerque to her family, but also to numerous political, social and environmental issues that were important to her. She ran the PTA Clothing Bank and was active with the ACLU. Sydney was a long-time member of the NM Mountain Club, leading many hikes, backpacks and car camps with that organization. She loved to travel, making many trips to Mexico with family and friends, and to England, Indonesia, and the Galapagos. Sydney was a fabulous cook and her services to the ACLU fund raising auctions and the NM Volunteers for the Outdoors were very popular. An informal reception and celebration will take place on Wednesday, July 9, 2003 at 7:00 p.m. at Congregation B'Nai Israel (meeting room), 4401 Indian School Rd.
