Published in the Albuquerque Journal on Sunday July 27, 2003

Larry J. Lopez, age 46, and a former resident of Belen from 1970-1975, a resident of Silver City, New Mexico from 1976 - 2002 and most recently a resident of Las Cruces, died unexpectedly at his home in Las Cruces, New Mexico. An avid athlete and loving husband and father, Larry is survived by his wife, Margie of Las Cruces; parents, Joe and Rita Lopez of Belen; children, Andrea Quintana of Rio Rancho, Aaron and Eric Lopez of Las Cruces, Jeanette Hanson of Alamogordo, Ralph Rueda of Clovis; and five granddaughters. In addition, he is survived by one sister, JoAnn Erikson of Albuquerque. A homecoming celebration took place on Monday July 21, 2003 at 11:00 a.m. at the First Assembly of God Church in Las Cruces, New Mexico. Funeral arrangements are being handled through Graham Mortuary of Las Cruces, New Mexico. A fund for the family has been set up and can be mailed to First Assembly of God Church 1605 So. Valley Dr., Las Cruces, New Mexico. Whether on a basketball court or on the church pulpit leading his congregation in song, his spirit and memory will live with those who knew him and loved him long after his death. We are comforted by knowing the love Larry had for the Lord Jesus Christ was first and foremost in his life. Life is not measured by the breaths that we take, but by the moments that take our breath away. Cherish the moments.
