Carl Rucker passed away Thursday, July 17, 2003. Carl was born and raised in Cheylan, WV, the son of Carrie and Grace Rucker. He was a graduate of Marshall College and had a masters degree in nuclear engineering. He was a veteran of WWII, serving in the 13th Army Air Force in the Pacific. He married Mary Catherine Goshorn August 26, 1950. He became a teacher after the war but was called up for service in the Korean conflict and remained in the Air Force, retiring with the rank of Lt. Colonel. The Air Force brought him to Albuquerque in 1961 and he and Mary Catherine fell in love with the city and called it home ever since. After retiring from the Air Force, Carl worked for a few years in home construction but returned to his favorite career, which was teaching. He taught for many years at Roosevelt Middle School in Tijeras. He always had an abiding faith in young people and many students will remember him in his 60's still roller-skating at school functions. Carl's hobbies included music, carpentry, gardening, and history. Carl was preceded in death by his wife Mary Catherine. He is survived by his son John, daughter-in-law Carol and grandchildren Megan and Jake and numerous nieces and nephews. Carl never forgot the impact the USO shows had on morale during the war.
