Obituary for Andrews

Frances Jeanette Andrews died Saturday, August 2, 2003 at her Crabtree residence she was 92. Frances was born February 28, 1911 in Kansas City, Missouri, the eldest of three daughters born to parents, William Chester and Blanche Louise (Pinkston) Newby. Nicknamed"Hank" by her youngest sister, Frances favored the name throughout her life. After graduating from high school in Compton, California, she studied business administration and began working in public relations for Sears Roebuck and Company, traveling often to Chicago and New York. Frances married Willard Harold Andrews in Los Angeles on July 15, 1944. Retiring shortly after World War II from Sears as a regional personnel manager with 25 years of service, Frances became the personnel director of the Southern Union Gas Company of Albuquerque, New Mexico, living in nearby Rio Rancho. Always enjoying traveling, she began to vacation throughout the world. Retiring from the gas company in the late 1970's Indonesia became her favorite travel destination; she returned there every year for the last 20 years. An accomplished seamstress, she enjoyed cooking, reading history, and keeping up with current events. After Willard died in February of 1989, Frances came to live with niece, Louise in Crabtree, OR in January of 2002. Frances enjoyed helping Louise in her garden, and just liked to see all the green of the mid-Valley. Survivors include her sister, Dorothy Sorrell, of Bakersfield, CA; daughter-in-law, Nancy Andrews of Vacaville, CA; three grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews; and Grey Howell of Sante Fe, New Mexico, who was like a son to her. In addition to husband, Willard, Frances was preceded in death by son, Gordon Andrews in December of 1974; and sister, Alice Elizabeth Dorsett in January of 2000. A graveside inurnment service will be held at the Sante Fe National Cemetery at 9:00 a.m. on Tuesday, August 19, 2003. AAsum Funeral Home of Albany is in care of arrangements.
