Obituary for Mullaney

Published in the Albuquerque Journal on Sunday August 10, 2003

Lisa Gay (Economides) Mullaney, age 43, a resident of Albuquerque since 1960, departed this world to be with her Lord August 7, 2003. Lisa was born in Santa Ana, California, November 20, 1959 and grew up in Albuquerque and Dallas, Texas. She was a great music lover, enjoying playing the piano and guitar and her greatest love - singing. She was a graduate of Eldorado High School and attended UNM for three years during which time she was a house manager of Popejoy Hall. Her education was interrupted with a bout with cancer, which she valiantly battled over 20 years. She developed great expertise on the computer and combined with her gift of organization, used her skills effectively in her jobs with K-TECH at the Particle Beam Fusion Accelerator and as the business manager for the Northwest Rio Grande Soccer League. She was a soccer coach and soccer mom. She loved a cappella singing and was a member of the"Doo-Wops" a cappella group, the Turquoise Trail ladies barbershop chorus and led other a cappella ladies groups. She was a lover of the outdoors and spent many wonderful times camping with her husband and son. She was always looking for ways to help others, encouraging those fighting her same disease, lending her computer and organizational skills and reaching out to those in need, never asking for anything in return. She accepted Jesus Christ as her Savior at age 12 and her faith has sustained her through all her struggles. According to her son Jack,"She was the best mom ever". She was a wonderful wife and the truest of friends to many. Sadly, there is one less white mini-van on the roads of Albuquerque, full of nieces, nephews, smiles, soccer balls, bicycles, fish poles, car seats, singing, crayons, schoolwork, and french fries. She is survived by her husband, Christopher; 7 year old co-pilot and son, Jack; sister and brother- in- law, Cheryl and Rob Armstrong; her consistently supportive and loving parents, Jim and Renee Economides; nieces and nephews, Jamie, Sean, Jessica, Josiah, Keri, Cheri and Danea Armstrong; aunts and uncles, Marcia and Floyd Veatch, Lana and Charles Ross, Paul and Mary Economides, Kathy and Monty Preonas; children, cousins, Laura George and children, Carin Darr, Marc Veatch and daughter. There will be a viewing Sunday, August 10, 2003 between 3:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m. at French Mortuary, 7121 Wyoming Blvd. NE. A Funeral Service will be held at Heights Cumberland Presbyterian Church, 8600 Academy N.E. at 1:30 p.m., Monday, August 11, 2003. A reception will follow the service where her friends and relatives can visit. The Interment Service will be held immediately following at Sunset Memorial Park on Menual Blvd. NE. Lisa loved flowers and they are welcome. Donations to the American Institute of Cancer Research (PO Box 97167 Washington DC, 20090) on her behalf, will also be helpful and beneficial to others. Pallbearers are Robert Armstrong, David Atery, Paul Economides, Mark George, Michael George, Marc Veatch. A special thanks to the Lovelace Oncology staff especially Amy Tarnower MD, and the fourth floor nurses and technicians who gave loving care to Lisa for many years.
