Obituary for Chavez

Mikel Anthony Chavez, 42, a lifelong resident of Albuquerque, passed away at home surrounded by his family on July 31, 2003. Mikel was a beloved son and brother, uncle and friend. He was a special person with a big heart and was loved by everyone. He will be greatly missed. Mikel is survived by his mother, Mary Helen Chavez of Albuquerque; one brother, Christopher Chavez and wife, Julie of Albuquerque; six sisters, Anna Trujillo and husband, Larry, Liz Ortega and husband, Carlos, Cathy Madrid and husband, Joe, Mary Lou Garcia and husband, John, Sylvia Chavez, and Pam Baca and husband, Leonard all of Albuquerque. He is also survived by his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Alvaro P. Moraga and numerous nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his father, Eliseo Chavez and his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Solomon Chavez and Mr. and Mrs. Tony R. Baca. Mikel was a member of the Albuquerque Hispano Chamber of Commerce and was most recently employed at Blondie's Hair Salon. He was also previously employed at Le Parque Salon, Classique Salon, Sara's on the Promenade and Enzo's Hair Salon. Memorial rosary will be recited on Sunday at 6:00 p.m. at St. Joseph on the Rio Grande Catholic Church with Mr. and Mrs. Henry J. Sanchez, reciting. Memorial mass will be celebrated on Monday at 9:00 a.m. also at the church with Father Frank Prieto, celebrant. Honorary pallbearers will be Larry Trujillo, Mark Saiz, Jimmy Rodriguez, Dave Garcia, Kenny Chavez and Ronnie Chavez.
