Obituary for Katz

K. Dianne Katz was born Thursday, September 11, 1947 in Los Angeles, CA. She died Friday, March 7, 2003 in Albuquerque, NM after a valiant battle with cancer. Dianne was preceded in death by her father, Walter Katz and stepfather, Alton Garner. She is survived by her mother, Lucile Garner; uncle, Tony Tagliaferro; aunt, Jenny McNeil and numerous cousins, friends and colleagues. Dianne attended and graduated from St. Vincent's Academy in Albuquerque. She was longtime member of St. Charles Borremo Church. Dianne received her Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of New Mexico in June, 1969 and from the School of Law in May 1972. She was admitted to practice law in August 1972. Dianne was presented the UNM School of Law Dean's Award on April 27, 1972, for"unselfishly giving of her time and energies in the service of the students, the faculty, and the School of Law." Dianne served on the Board of Directors of the Family Law Section of the State Bar of New Mexico. In 2000, the New Mexico Women's Bar Association presented Dianne with the"Golden Hammer Award" for her meticulous building of the Habitat for Humanity House. But for Dianne, many, many clients would have been without the exacting, dedicated representation to which she dedicated her life. Regardless of whether a person in need could never pay her, could only pay her $1, or, promised to pay her mere pennies per month, Dianne took care of all her clients in the same way-with all the love and care she had to give. The legal community is indebted to her. She was a member of Pilot Club since 1980, serving as Governor of the Southwest District of Pilot Club International in 1991. Dianne will be remembered as a unique and special person who touched the lives of her family, friends and clients. Rosary will be recited Sunday, March 9, 2003, 7:15 p.m., at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church, 1818 Coal Place SE, with Deacon John Russo reciting. Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated Monday, March 10, 2003, 9:30 a.m., at St Charles Borromeo Catholic Church with Fr. Robert A. Chabot, Celebrant. Interment will follow at Mt. Calvary Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Martin Barker, Fred Wilson, Tony Tagliaferro, William Epler, John Chiado, Jr., Don D. Johnson and Samuel Roll.W Honorary Pallbearers will be Betty Reed, Barbara V. Johnson, Muriel McClelland, Loretta Libby Atkins, Peter H. Johnstone, Judy Montano, Brett McNeil, Justice Gene E. Franchini, Judge James F. Blackmer, and Judge Robert H. Scott.
