Obituary for Lopez

Juan Carlos Lopez. Born on April 11, 1931 in Truchas, NM went into the arms of the Lord on March 29, 2003. He is survived by his wonderful wife of 49 years, Esther; one daughter, Anita and her husband, Ruben Chavez; two grandchildren, Elisa and Andrea; and one great-grandchild, Amberley. He is also survived by his brother, Silas Lopez of Las Vegas, NM; sisters-in-law, Ernestina Lopez and Theresa Lopez; and many relatives and friends. Juan was preceded in death by his parents, Juan and Domitila Lopez; and siblings, Eli, Aaron and Alicia. Juan attended the Allison James and Menaul Presbyterian schools and was a graduate of New Mexico Highlands and received a Masters Degree from Denver University School of Social Work. He was a veteran of the Korean War, where he received three bronze stars and a United Nations Service medal. Juan had been assigned to the Colombian Army as an interpreter. He retired from NM State Government in 1987. During his career he was city manger of Espanola and director of Public Works for the City of Santa Fe. He loved fishing and his beautiful Truchas Mountains. A Memorial Service is planned for Tuesday evening at 7:00 p.m., at the First Presbyterian Church, Located at 208 Grand Street. Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, April 2, 2003 at 10:00 a.m. also at First Presbyterian Church, with burial to follow at the Santa Fe National Cemetery at 11:30 a.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Menaul School, 301 Menaul Blvd., NE, Albuquerque, NM 87107, or Westminister Presbyterian Church, 841 W. Manhattan Ave., Santa Fe, NM 87501. Pallbearers are Eddie Lopez Larry Lopez, Michael Lopez, Andres Estrada, Joe Estrada, Benito Estrada, Peter Leyba, and Gavino Leyba.
