Obituary for YOUNG

David Clinton Young, 79, passed away September 2, 2003. He was preceded in death by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. David T. Young of Westminster, Maryland. Born December 17, 1923, he served in World War II with the 94th Replacement Battalion, 333rd Regiment. He later served with the Red Cross in Korea. Recently he was awarded the French Freedom medal for his service in World War II, which was received on his behalf by his grandson, David Justin. A graduate of Western Maryland College, Young pursued extended art studies in Europe and the Far East. His graduate work was taken at the University of Maryland and George Washington University, and he received his Masters of Fine Arts from Catholic University. He began his career as an art educator in Maryland while continuing his painting. His most notable work, "The Yellow Hat," was displayed at the Smithsonian Institute in an art exhibit juried by Andrew Wyeth. Jim Henson, the creator of the beloved Muppet characters, was among his art students at Northwestern High School in Hyattsville, Maryland. Young and his family moved to Albuquerque in 1971 where he worked as a Cultural Arts Specialist with the Bureau of Indian Affairs. Throughout his life he generously shared his expertise and love of art and antiques. His intelligence, sense of humor, loving spirit, and kind voice will be desperately missed. He is survived by Helen Culum Young, his wife of 43 years, their son, David Young and his wife Mary of Albuquerque, their two daughters Christina Young and her husband John Osborne of New York, Marisa Young and her husband John Nocerino of Los Angeles, and their grandchildren David Justin, William, Benjamin and Kaitlin, as well as his brother Joseph and his wife Ave of Virginia, his sister Dorothy Marie Young, SSND, of Bolivia, and many dear nieces and nephews. The family wishes to thank the professional and compassionate care of Larry Cawthon and the exceptional team of caregivers at Quality Continuum Hospice and Home Healthcare. Memorial services will be held on Saturday, September 6, 2003 at 11:00 am at French Mortuary, 10500 Lomas Blvd. NE. Pastor Cynthia Watson will officiate. Honorary Pallbearers will be Steve Sacks, Harry Berendzen, Barry Berkson, Norman Perin, Jim Stutterman, and Harry Wolfe. His ashes will be interred at a later date at St. John's Cemetery in Westminster, Maryland. Memorial contributions may be made to the Michael J.
