Mr. Benito Griego, 81, a much loved and admired patriarch of the Duranes Community passed away peacefully Thursday and is home with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. He is survived by his beloved wife of 55 years, Theresa; his four sons, Robert and Cathy, Patrick, David and Louis; and his daughter, Yasmin. He was also blessed with 18 grandchildren, David Lee, Demetrio & Delfina, Samantha & Charlie, Dominic, Jason, Cara, Charles, Daniela & Thomas, Micaiah & Dan, Jennifer, Bernadette & Anthony, Adrian, Christina and Gabriel. His life was further fulfilled by the laughter of 7 great-grandchildren, Esperanza, Anthony, Benito, Victoria, Demetrio Jr., Phillip and Estevan. He is also survived by two brothers and four sisters and innumerable nephews and nieces. Bennie served in the Army Air Force as Tech Sergeant during World War II and retired from the Albuquerque Fire Department in 1981 after faithfully serving the community for 30 years. He was born in Las Vegas, NM on September 24, 1921 and soon after his arrival to Albuquerque in 1949, he committed his life to serving the parishes of the Immaculate Conception, San Felipe de Neri, San Jose de Duranes, the Queen of Angels and St. Therese. He is remembered for his strong values of family unity and his faithful devotion and prayer life. His home has always been filled with blessings and all who knew him were always welcome. Funeral Services for Mr. Griego will be held on Monday, September 8, 2003 at San Felipe de Neri Catholic Church where the Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. Burial will follow at Mt. Calvary Cemetery. Pallbearers will be members of the Albuquerque Fire Department. Honorary pallbearers will be Victor Escaria, Robert Jaramillo, Juan Vigil, Joe Baldonado, Frank Sierra and Trujillo. A Rosary for Mr. Griego will be recited on Sunday evening at 7:00 p.m. at the San Jose de los Duranes Church.
