Published in the Albuquerque Journal on Saturday March 07, 2015

PRICE, EVELYN H. of Albuquerque, NM passed away Saturday, February 28, 2015 at age 85. She was born November 24, 1929, to Tom and Evelyn Hood in Los Angeles, California, but spent most of her life in communities in New Mexico. She attended the University of Colorado in Boulder Colorado, attaining a degree in elementary education. In later years, after her children were older, she received her Master's Degree at New Mexico State University and was only a few units short of earning her PhD. Her later professional work involved teaching and placement of gifted children, and she never lost her interest in education or the young. Married to P.J. Short for 21 years, she had six children with him, all of whom survive her. Her second marriage was to George B. Price, whom she married on August 5, 1976 in Long Beach, California. She and George were married for 32 years, and after his retirement the two of them traveled extensively in their RV. Part of an extensive RV community, they traveled to all 50 states and most Canadian provinces and always had a great sense of wonder at all the beauty they found as they traveled. She was an accomplished birder and enjoyed many types of card games, including bridge. Her thirst for knowledge continued all her life and she kept herself current on many things, from current events to health and nutrition. She loved plants, particularly cacti, and was a rock collector. She is survived by all six of her children: Molly Jenkins and her husband of Long Beach, CA; Bob Short and his wife Joni of Vista, CA; Ginny Short of Thousand Palms, CA; Joe Short and his wife Cathy of Las Cruces, NM; Paul Short and his wife Diane, of Albuquerque, NM; and Alan Short and his wife Michelle of Huntington, IN. She was the proud grandmother of ten and the ecstatic great-grandmother of one. According to her wishes she will be cremated and her ashes will be enniched with those of her husband George Price, at the Santa Fe National Cemetery. A memorial service will be held for her at the Albuquerque Meadows Clubhouse, 7112 Pan American Frontage Road NE, on Sunday, March 8 at 1:30 PM. The family requests that in lieu of flowers a donation be made in Evelyn's name to the Audobon Society or the Sierra Club.
