Published in the Albuquerque Journal on Wednesday February 25, 2015

CRUZ, HILDA G. On February 21, 2015, the Lord peacefully took Hilda G. Cruz from this earth. She was greeted with open arms into Heaven by her loving husband, Paul J. Cruz, her parents Jose and Isabel Gutierrez, grandson Aaron Acevedo, son-in-law Douglas Kawcak and many other relatives and friends who preceded her in death. Hilda's journey began in Rowe, NM, where she was born on May 19, 1930. She graduated from El Rito HS and set her sights on the big city - Albuquerque. That's where she met and married the love of her life, Paul. Together they owned and operated several successful businesses including El Comedor De Cruz, Little Anita's bar in Albuquerque and El Nido Restaurant /Bar in Los Chavez. After much success in the restaurant business, she followed her true passion and became a very successful Realtor/Broker and established yet another business, Casa Del Sol Realty. She was a businesswoman with a heart, and made a point to put people before profits, often helping others find homes or business deals they would not have been able to without her. Hilda followed her mother's footsteps in being a woman ahead of her time. She did not believe in barriers for working women and always being the best at what she did. . Aside from her professional accomplishments, Hilda was widely known as a fashionista and "Hat Lady," because of her impressive collection of hats and elegant, classic style. With all that she did, she was a wonderful mother and Nana, who lived by honesty, hard work, integrity, love and respect. She will be dearly missed. She is survived by her children, Sabrina Kawcak, Paul Jr. and wife Veronica, Merlinda Acevedo and husband Art, Donald and wife Lori; siblings Carlos Gutierrez, Connie Francis, Gloria Otero and husband Max, and Joe Gutierrez; sister-in-law Ada Kozlowski; grandsons, Dominic, Paul, Chris, and Donald; granddaughters Alix and Taylor; great-grandson Jacen; and many cousins, nieces and nephews.
