Published in the Albuquerque Journal on Tuesday February 24, 2015

BELLMAN, LOUISE E. Long-time Albuquerque resident Louise E. Bellman passed away on February 13, 2015 after a long battle with pulmonary disease. She resided at La Vida Llena Retirement Community in Albuquerque. Daughter of Julius C. Prinz and Rose Prinz (nee Weinstein), Louise was born in New York City on April 21, 1934. Louise Prinz was recognized from an early age as a talented pianist and graduated from the High School of Music & Arts (NYC) in 1952 and subsequently attended Fredonia State Teachers College where she studied to be a music teacher. Louise married Walter Bellman in 1952. They were the proud parents of three sons, Peter and David (who were born in Bronx, New York) and Charles, who was born in Los Angeles where the young family had moved in 1959 as Walter started his career as a computer programmer/ analyst. In 1967, the young family relocated to the Northern Virginia area. In Virginia, after the children became more independent, Louise explored a new career path; she trained to work in a medical records library and was employed by Fairfax Hospital as a medical records technician. By 1994, both Louise and Walter had retired from their respective careers and they chose once again to relocate, this time to Albuquerque. With their new-found free time, they enjoyed together a great deal of music (life-long passions for them both), traveling and soaking in the rich cultural scene and natural beauty of their adopted home. Louise's love of nature and especially birds was easily satisfied in NM. Other activities that Louise cultivated were competitive table tennis and crocheting and knitting. She freely gave of her time at libraries, senior centers and donated her crocheting work to the sick and needy. Playing the piano was always a major part of her life, and in Albuquerque, Louise renewed her piano studies and especially enjoyed duet playing with friends. Louise was widowed in 2014 after 61 years of marriage to Walter. She is survived by sons Christopher J. Leighton (ne Peter), David (Ingrid) and Charles and granddaughter Lilly Bellman (Tim Barribeau). A memorial service will be held in the chapel at La Vida Llena (10501 Lagrima de Oro Rd. NE ABQ, 87111) on Wednesday, March 4 at 2:00 pm. (Contributions in her honor may be made to the charity: "Guiding Eyes for the Blind.")
