Obituary for SNOVER

Published in the Albuquerque Journal on Tuesday February 03, 2015

SNOVER, SUSAN (SUSIE) Susan (Susie) Snover, born August 26, 1944 in Charlevoix, Michigan, passed away Saturday, January 31, 2015. Raised on a dairy farm, Susie developed a lifelong love of animals and a fierce independence. Her parents, Rose and Lynn Carpenter, raised strong, self-reliant children, including the youngest, Susie. Fearless, she never shied away from a challenge, whether it was drag racing for money or marrying a young Coast Guard sailor when she was only 17. This match required legal permission from her parents. Given the option of signing the papers or tossing the young man in Lake Michigan, Lynn decided to give Gary Snover a chance. A year later, they welcomed their first child, George, followed by Glenda, and finally Greg. (Susie swore the three 'G' names were coincidence.) Born with what she described as "a lemon of a body," Susie struggled with health issues throughout her life, but possessed the gift of finding something to celebrate every day. With a ready and heartfelt kindness, she put people at ease and made friends wherever she went. An expert at sewing, knitting, crocheting and quilting, Susie created masterful treasures and enduring bonds with those she loved. She is survived by her loving husband; her children, George, Glenda and her husband Karl, and Greg and his wife Stephanie; beloved grandchildren, Ross, Perryn, Paloma, and Emma; as well as her brothers, Del and Steve, and sisters, Roselynn, Fran and Sandy. A memorial will be held at 1pm on Wednesday, Feb. 4 at the Canyon Club. The family welcomes donations to Animal Humane NM in lieu of flowers.
