Obituary for BOYLE

Published in the Albuquerque Journal on Sunday January 25, 2015

BOYLE, VERA I. CHIODINI Vera Chiodini Boyle, 94, died naturally and peacefully on January 21, 2015. Her children were with her during her final days. Vera was born on June 7, 1920 in Eveleth, MN. to Italian immigrants, Primo and Giacomina Chiodini. Being a first generation American, she was very proud of hers and her parents' heritage. She believed that immigrants such as her parents were the cream of the crop and typical of the many immigrants over the generations who have enriched this country in so many ways. On June 14, 1943 she married her high school sweetheart, Robert Boyle who preceded her in death on Jan. 27, 2011. Before her marriage, Vera attended the University of Minnesota where she was training to become a nurse. After living in Minneapolis and St. Paul MN, for many years, where she and Robert raised their family, they moved to Bemidji, MN. Some years later, they purchased a home in Sun City West, AZ spending all of their winters there until 2008 when they became residents of the Manzano del Sol retirement community in Albuquerque, NM. Vera had many artistic interests and talents including drawing, painting, and ceramics. Her competitive spirit made her a formidable opponent when it came to playing Scrabble and various card games. She was an avid gardener, a skilled seamstress, and a great cook. Vera was never daunted by new challenges in her many interests. Her keen sense of humor and many talents were appreciated by family and friends. She was an active citizen and belonged to The League of Women Voters while living in St. Paul. During their time in Bemidji, she and Robert were instrumental through their advocacy in getting a railroad overpass built in order to provide emergency vehicle access to the small enclave of lakeside homes where they lived.Vera's true calling in life was being a wonderful mother to her four devoted and beloved children who survive her: Patricia Gotch (Dan) Pacific Grove, CA, Katherine Wade, Albuquerque, NM, Michael Boyle (Hon) Chaing Mai, Thailand/St.Paul, MN, and Christopher Boyle, Albuquerque, NM. She also is survived by her grandchildren Timothy Gotch (Lisa), San Francisco, CA, Katherine Gotch Jordan (Kyle), Portland OR, one great grandchild, Sage Fuentes, and nieces and nephews. Vera was the last surviving of four siblings and was preceded in death by her brothers, Leo Chiodini and Anthony Chiodini, and her sister, Helene Sherman. Vera also was preceded in death in 2011 by hers and Robert's devoted son-in-law, Bryan Baumeister. The family thanks the staff of Manzano del Sol Health Care Center who have lovingly cared for Vera for the past few years and who truly appreciated her uniqueness and individuality. They also wish to thank the caregivers of Ambercare Hospice who assisted Vera and the family at the end of her life. Cremation has taken place and hers and Robert's remains will be taken to Minnesota by their children at a later date to be interred in the Boyle Family plot in the Eveleth Cemetery. A memorial and celebration honoring Vera's life will be on Thursday, January 29 at 10:00AM in the Manzano del Sol Chapel at 5201 Roma Av. NE Albuquerque, NM. A reception will follow.
