Obituary for SLATEN

SLATEN, KENNETH R. Age 85, of Albuquerque and Chandler, AZ, went to be with the Lord, Thursday, December 18, 2014. Ken was born in Hollis, OK to Elmer and Pearl Slaten. He, along with his eight siblings, grew up on a farm in Durango, CO, and he played football and basketball at Durango High School. He served his country in the Korean War as a Naval Aviator performing submarine recon. After the war, Ken became a pilot for Trans World Airlines where he retired after 37 years. He was a loving husband and father. Ken never met a stranger and was loved by all who had the privilege of knowing him. He is survived by his wife, Jean; son, Dave and his wife, Donna; daughter, Nancy Holtzclaw and her husband, Mark; his grandchildren, Bryan Slaten and wife, Angela, Bethany Slaten, and Kenny Slaten; and his great-grandchildren, Andrew, Brooke, and Bailey; brothers, Sam Slaten and wife, Fran, and Glen Slaten; sisters, Betty Jo Kafer, Judy Leplatt and husband, Bob; many nieces and nephews who considered Uncle Kenny to be their favorite. He was preceded in death by Rosemary, his wife of 51 years and first born son, Jeff. Memorial services will be held Saturday, January 17, 2015, 1:00 p.m. at FRENCH-Wyoming, 7121 Wyoming Blvd. NE.
