Published in the Albuquerque Journal on Sunday January 04, 2015

ROMERO, FLAMINIA age 85, passed away early Sunday December 28, 2014 in the comfort of her home and in the presence of her family after a fourteen year-long struggle with the complications of a severe stroke. Flaminia was born to the late Juan Bautista Muniz and Juanita Valdez on March 1, 1929 in Wagon Mound, NM where she was raised on a small family ranch. In 1947 after her graduation from Wagon Mound High School, she married her lifelong partner of 67 years, Christian W. Romero, and moved to Colorado, then eventually Las Vegas, NM. Flaminia served many roles of a matriarch and was sure to always remain busy, whether in the home caring for her family, in local work-places, or in small cleaning jobs she picked up after retirement from the Las Vegas Hospital laundry service. Not only did Flaminia exemplify a strong work ethic and an independent personality, but she was also known throughout the community and by all of her family for her deeply caring and supportive nature. She was always described to have a beautiful smile, and always welcomed others into her home and to her kitchen table. After her stroke in June 2000, Flaminia and her husband moved to Albuquerque, NM with her younger son, Raymond and his family, where she remained a remarkably strong and beautiful woman, despite her illnesses, bringing joy and love to all in her life. Flaminia was preceded in death by her husband Christian W. Romero; her parents Juan and Juanita Muniz; two of her three siblings Angie Manzanares and Joe Muniz; as well as her infant granddaughter, Erica Romero. She is survived by her sister, Theresa Manzanares; and her two sons and their wives, Elmer/Delores Romero and Raymond/Michelle Romero. She is also survived by her five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. A Rosary service will be held on Monday, January 5, 2015 at 8:00 a.m with a funeral mass to follow at 9:00 a.m. at St. Joseph's on the Rio Grande Church, 5901 St. Josephs Ave NW Albuquerque, NM 87120. A burial service will follow at Mount Calvary Cemetery, 1900 Edith Blvd NE, Albuquerque, NM 87102. Flowers may be delivered to St. Joseph's on the Rio Grande Church.
