RIOS, PORFIRIO Porfirio "Pilo" Rios, 91, passed away unexpectedly on December 28, 2014, in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Pilo was born on September 16, 1923 in Winnemucca, Nevada to Francisca and Refugio Rios. After finishing high school, he joined the Army Air Force. As a veteran of WWII, he flew twenty-two B-twenty nine missions over Japan. He left the Air Force Reserve as a first lieutenant. After the war, he moved to Los Alamos, NM, to work for the Atomic Energy Commission (later the Department of Energy) in the nuclear weapons industry. In Los Alamos, he met Joan Raimer and married her on December 21, 1951. They had two sons; Peter and Michael who were born in Los Alamos. In 1954, the family moved to Albuquerque where Pilo continued his career with the AEC. Pilo retired as Assistant Chief of Safeguards Branch in 1978 after thirty four years of service. He enjoyed a relaxed lifestyle for many years thereafter. Pilo lived his life with purpose always striving for excellence. He was passionate about expressing his viewpoints, especially politics, religion, affairs in his home state of New Mexico, and the general state of mankind. And, of course, Pilo loved his Mexican food. In Albuquerque restaurants, the question often asked is "Red or green chile?" Either way, Pilo liked it hot. Pilo is survived by his wife Joan of sixty three years, son Peter and his wife Patricia, two grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren, sisters; Mary, Camarillo, CA, Inez, Ventura, CA, Phyllis, Brinnon, WA, Julia and her husband Fred, Oxnard, CA, brothers; John, Berkley, CA, Robert, Fairfield, CA, and numerous nieces, nephews and their families.
