Published in the Albuquerque Journal on Sunday October 19, 2014

ZIEGLER, ALTON H. Alton "Ziggy" H. Ziegler, age 93, born August 10, 1921 in Limerick, PA and long-time resident of Albuquerque, passed away peacefully on Saturday, October 11, 2014. He proudly served our Country in World War II and the Korean War as a First Lieutenant in the Army Air Corps, where he piloted L-19 Bird Dogs and B-24 Liberators. During the latter part of his military career, he served as a B-24 instructor. Upon retirement, Ziggy moved to New Mexico to be closer to family. He was an avid golfer, playing at least five days a week. When he was not playing golf, he was watching it! He was also a superb card player and played in many bridge groups over the years. Despite losing his vision, he continued to love the outdoors and spent many afternoons sitting on his patio, getting sun. He is survived by his two brothers, Ralph and Barton Ziegler; grandchildren Lori Ermatinger, Jennifer and her husband Daniel Kaase, and Sean Ziegler and his wife Michele; and five great-grandchildren, Sarah Ermatinger, Ryan and Olivia Kaase, and Emily and Sophia Ziegler. He was preceded in death by his wife Justine H. Ziegler, and sons Alton Jr. and Paul. It was Ziggy's wish to not have a formal memorial service. Instead a private service will be held with his family at the Santa Fe National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to Hospice of New Mexico. He will be missed by all who knew and loved him.
