CHAPPELL, EDNA MAE HODKINSON 1930-2014 Edna M. (Eddie) Chapell, age 84, born August 23, 1930, in Peoria, Illinois passed peacefully on Sunday, October 5, 2014. She retired from the Los Lunas Hospital and Training School with 25 years of service. She was a resident of the Vineyard Retirement Community for the past 12 years, where she was an active member of the Red Hats Society, and a past officer of the community association. She was a member of San Clemente Catholic Church in Los Lunas. She was preceded in death by Thomas Chappell, her husband of 37 years on September 16, 1987; parents, Florence and Ernest Hodkinson; husband's parents, Cecilia and John Chappell; sister Irene and husband Joe Paul; sister, Janet Hodkinson; sister-in-law, Doris Hodkinson; brothers-in-law, Jack Chappell, and Robert Mader; and sister-in-law, Rosemary and husband Arthur Franklin. Edna is survived by her brother, Al Hodkinson, Vacaville, CA; seven children, Gay and Jim Snell of Los Lunas, NM, Thom and Kathy Chappell of Tacoma, WA, Joy and Mark Hutson of Amarillo, TX, Glee and Dan Soto of Rio Rancho, NM, Merrie Chappell of Albuquerque, NM, John and Donna Chappell of Belton, TX, Holly Chappell of Albuquerque, NM, and special son, Jay Sopiwnik of Los Lunas, NM. She is also survived by 17 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. Services will be held at San Clemente Catholic Church, beginning on Friday, October 10, with a viewing at 6:30 p.m., followed by a vigil service at 7:00 p.m. A final viewing will be held Saturday, October 11, beginning at 9:00 a.m., followed by the funeral Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 a.m. Burial will take place at Mt. Calvary Cemetery following services. Serving as pallbearers will be Edna's grandsons, Daniel, Nathan and Collin Soto, Austyn Griffin, Dalton Rosenberger, and Skye Prater. Honorary pallbearers will be her good friends, Norma Allen, Betty Householder, and Roger Adams. A memorial service at the Vineyard Community Center will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Edna's name to the San Clemente Church Building Fund. The family wishes to thank the staff of Presbyterian Hospital for their excellent care of Edna.
