BERGEN, TRUDY L. Trudy L. Bergen, age 61, a resident of Albuquerque since 1995, died on September 16, 2014 after a brief illness. Trudy was born in Bakersfield, CA to Harry L. Bergen and Thelma Mae Bishop Bergen, and grew up in Maricopa, Paso Robles, and Bakersfield. She attended Foothill High School in Bakersfield, graduating in 1970. The summer before her junior year, she attended a National Science Foundation program in mathematics at the University of Illinois, where she met her future husband, Don Keenan. She pursued her education at the California Institute of Technology in Pasadena, CA, as one of the first women admitted, and received a BS in Mathematics in 1974. She worked for The Aerospace Corporation from 1981 until her retirement in 2008, transferring to the Albuquerque office in 1995. An avid recreational bicyclist, Trudy was a member of the New Mexico Touring Society and led several regular bike rides. She loved travel, and she and her husband participated in many bike tours in the U.S. and abroad. She and Don also formed a dedicated, if minimally skilled, ice dance couple, working for many years with their coach, the late Mary Walston. Easy access to Santa Fe and Taos enabled Trudy to improve her telemark skiing and attend the Santa Fe Opera regularly. She was an exceptionally skilled quilter, and taught many others the craft. She is preceded in death by her parents and by her husband, Don Keenan. She is survived by a large circle of family and devoted friends. A memorial celebration will be held on October 26, 2014. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Trudy's memory to the Sidney Kimmel Comprehensive Cancer Center at the Johns Hopkins Medical Institutes, to Doctors without Borders, or to the Roadrunner Food Bank.
