Obituary for TOMASI

Published in the Albuquerque Journal on Saturday September 20, 2014

TOMASI, JOHN HENRY Age 81, a longtime resident of Albuquerque, was peacefully called home to his Lord on Tuesday, September 17, 2014, while he slept at home. He was born in Los Angeles, California on June 8, 1933, to Aurelio (Tom) and Pierina (Irene) Tomasi. He graduated from Loyola University of Los Angeles, with a Bachelor's degree in Biology. He married Lillian Domenici of Albuquerque in 1955. John served in the U.S. Navy as a Naval Navigator. He obtained a second degree in Pharmacy from the University of New Mexico. He worked as a pharmacist for 35 years in Texas and New Mexico, retiring from Walgreens in 1996. John's life consisted of what he could do for his family. His strongest drive was to provide for them, and his greatest joy was when he was surrounded by the ever growing, ever boisterous clan he oversaw. Both his family and professional life were marked by profound integrity and he had a deep and abiding commitment to his faith. His kindness will be remembered by all who knew him, and he has left a beautiful heritage to his children and grandchildren. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Lillian Domenici Tomasi, his six children, Pamela Huxen (Mark), Patrice Welker (Chris), Steve Tomasi (Riva), Tom Tomasi (Jeree), David Tomasi (Kim), and Annette Armijo (Marty), as well as 16 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister, Rita Colburn, and her three sons, Gordon (Debbie), Joe, and John ( Miriam) and their families. John was a long time parishioner of The Shrine of St. Bernadette, serving as an usher, a member of the Men In Fellowship and was a co-founder of the annual Shrine of St. Bernadette's Charity Golf Tournament. The family was tremendously blessed by the generous and compassionate service given by Viola Cordova. They are also deeply grateful for Ambercare Hospice for guiding the family through John's final days. Friends may visit the family Sunday, September 21, 2014, 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at FRENCH Lomas. The Rosary will follow at 7:00 p.m. at FRENCH - Lomas. Mass will be celebrated Monday, September 22, 2014, 9:00 a.m. at The Shrine of St. Bernadette, 11401 Indian School Rd NE.
