Obituary for CASTILLO

CASTILLO, MARK B. Age 87, a resident of Torreon, NM passed peacefully at home on Friday, August 8, 2014 with his family at his side. He is survived by his children, Benita Castillo, Reginald Castillo and wife, Brenda, Karyn West and husband, James, Kathy Castillo, Leroy Castillo, Ruby Castillo, Paul Castillo and wife, Charlene, Annabelle Waites and husband, Martin, Isabelle Castillo, and Tynna Begay and husband, Stewart; 28 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; brother, Paddy Castillo, Sr.; niece, Rita Yazze; and numerous other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his wife, Helen S. Castillo; son, Hank H. Castillo; granddaughter, Nizhoni Angel Castillo; brothers, Tony R. Castillo, Eddie Castillo Sr., and Billy Jack Castillo; and two sisters. Mark was born in 1927 in Whitehorse Lake, NM and as a young man worked at Wingate Army Depot as a driver and also as a seasonal farmer. He entered the United States Army and was stationed in Germany as a Medic for three years. After his discharge, he returned to Torreon where he married Helen Sandoval on April 15, 1953. He worked as a bus driver, a gas station attendant, mechanic and other jobs to support his family. They moved to Farmington in about 1979 where Mark was working for American Tank and Steel and then Navajo Mines/BHP, retiring after 33 years. Mark was also a cattle rancher in Rincon Marquez, NM. He took care of Helen until her death in 1997. Mark loved to travel, to read, and watch old Western movies. He was a humorous, hardworking, soft-spoken man "who could walk on water." There was always a smile on his face. Mark was a loving father, grandfather, brother, and uncle who will be deeply missed by all. Services will be held on Wednesday August 13, 2014, 11:30 a.m., at FRENCH - Wyoming. Interment will follow at 3:00 p.m. at Santa Fe National Cemetery. Pallbearers will be his grandchildren, Melvina Castillo, Craig Castillo, Freman Gauna, Lance Castillo, Tiffany Fragua, Jarion Antone, Myles Waites, and Kyle Castillo. Honorary pallbearers will be Paddy Castillo Sr., Reggie Castillo, Leroy Castillo, Paul Castillo, Martin Waites, Stewart Begay, James West, and Eric Castillo.
