Obituary for STIRLING

Published in the Albuquerque Journal on Friday July 18, 2014

STIRLING, HELEN L. passed through this earthly plane on July 14, 2014. She died after a long battle with lung cancer. Her memory is held by her husband Gregory Biehler; daughter Katherine Cordry; son Brian Fuller; and four grandchildren Maxim, Fletcher, Sawyer and Lillian. She gave joy to those who shared her life and will be sorely missed. Born in Grove City, Penn. in 1945, Helen was the daughter of a theologian, author and minister, Addison Leitch. She received a BA in English and History at Tarkio College in Missouri and an MSE in counseling at Drake University. She was a teacher and counselor before graduation from Drake University Law School, Order of the Coif. She then was a professor with Drake University Law School, clerked for the Iowa Ct of Appeals, practiced criminal law, and served with Legal Aid in Iowa before moving to New Mexico in 1986. After coming to New Mexico, Helen practiced civil law and came to specialize in Workers Compensation. She eventually was appointed as a Judge of the Workers Compensation Administration, where she served for six years. She was a devoted fan of auto racing, a ravenous reader and unrepentant smoker. She loved to travel and spend time with her friends and family. In accordance with her wishes, Helen will not have a local service and asked that her ashes be buried with her grandfather and grandmother at Laws Chapel in Tenn.
