Published in the Albuquerque Journal on Friday July 11, 2014

GUADERRAMA, JACQUELINE GOSS Jackie Guaderrama passed away Monday, July 7, 2014, after a prolonged illness following a traumatic head injury. She was born February 11, 1943, in Las Cruces, NM, to Mary Jane and Walter "Jack" Goss. Jack Goss, a pilot during the Second World War, died in a plane crash in Burma when Jackie was 2 years old. Jackie was a graduate of Las Cruces High School and earned undergraduate and postgraduate degrees from the University of New Mexico, and New Mexico State University. After a career as an English teacher and counselor at Mayfield High School in Las Cruces, Jackie moved to Albuquerque and began 15 years of active retirement, excelling in tennis, bicycling, and charitable and Democratic Party fundraising. During her retirement she served as president of the New Mexico Symphony Guild, chair of the Jackie McGehee Young Artists' Competition for Piano and Strings, and joined her United States Tennis Association Seniors' team twice at the national championships. Always an advocate for homeless and needy animals, Jackie became involved in her favorite and most fulfilling project at Animal Humane New Mexico (AHNM). Preceding her illness she volunteered in the surgical recovery room at AHNM. Among her many friends and family, she will be missed by survivors, sons Doug Pickett and wife Amy, Mark Pickett and wife Valerie, husband Larry and rat terrier Rusty, and cousins Melanie and Dick Pool, Cleve and Debbie Voiers, and Vickie Morrow. She will always be remembered for her beautiful smile, quick wit, and ability to light up a room. Cremation has taken place, and a memorial service is planned for the fall. In lieu of flowers, donations to AHNM would be appreciated.
