CHAVEZ, JOE WILLIAM "Billy" as his family and friends knew him, passed away on June 27, 2014 at the age of 85. A native of Albuquerque, Billy attended St. Francis Elementary School, St. Mary's High School and graduated from Albuquerque High School. He served in the United States Navy aboard a diesel submarine during the Korean War. Upon returning home, he became a Letter Carrier for the U.S. Postal Service and retired after 33 years. "Billy" had a generous spirit and a giving heart; he was a role model for both fathers and grandfathers. He loved sports, rancheras, dancing, classical music, fishing and watching classic movies. He always had a quip for every occasion and loved to laugh. This is a final quip for him (and to quote him), "Billy, your humor was only exceeded by your good looks." Billy will be loving remembered by his wife, Irene and his children, Kathy, Ed (Holly), and her children, Cynthia, Lisa (Mike), Trish (Mike), Emily (Tim), and James/deceased (Raquel). Bill will also be fondly remembered by fifteen grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; his brother-in-law Ernest; sister-in-law "Speedy"; many nieces, nephews, and Godson, Mike. Billy was predeceased by his father, Tranquilino; mother, Julianita; wife, Jennie; brothers, Joe and Richard; and sisters Carmen, Sadie, and Fannie. A Rosary will be held on Sunday, July 6, at 7:00 p.m. at Holy Family Church, 562 Atrisco, Albuquerque. A Funeral Mass will be held on Monday, July 7, 2014 at 9:00 a.m. also at Holy Family Church, 562 Atrisco, Albuquerque followed by burial at Pajarito cemetery at 2150 Raymac Rd.
