LANDAU, MARCIA ELLEN GOODMAN Died May 23rd, 2014. She was 73 years old. She is survived by her husband of 53 years, David; her son, Neil; her daughter Michelle; her son-in-law, Brian; and her three grandchildren, Alexis, Emmaleah and Jacob; and extended family, students, clients and colleagues. Marcia Landau was the standard bearer for empathy, warmth, compassion unconditional positive regard, gentleness and a quiet calm strength which she exuded to all those around her. Everyone who knew her was touched by her. Marcia was born in the Bronx on November 20, 1940. She received her Bachelors degree in Psychology from Queens College in 1960, her Masters degree in Psychology from the University of Miami in 1963, her Ph.D. in Counseling from the University of Florida in 1971, her American Board of Professional Psychology Diplomate in 1980 and completed a second Masters degree in English Literature in 2002 from the University of New Mexico. In the 70s she worked at the Albuquerque Child Guidance Center and began her private practice with Gail Feldman, Ph.D and David Rosenstein, M.D. She began working as an Adjunct Professor of Psychology and Psychiatry at UNM at this time. She continued this association until her death. From the mid 80s to the early 90s, she was the editor of The Psychologist, the newsletter for the state Psychology Association. In 1991 she co-authored with Robert Klein, Ph.D., "Healing the Body Betrayed", a self paced guide to assist people with chronic illness. She helped create the New Mexico Psychoanalytic Society at this time. Her work on her second masters degree led to another expertise in psychoanalytic interpretations of writers and their literature. She presented these interpretations at the International Psychoanalytic Study of the Arts meetings held in Russia, Poland, Spain, Italy and England. As a therapist, Dr. Landau was considered the gold standard for empathy, compassion and psychoanalytic psychotherapy in New Mexico. The void created by Dr. Landau's death will be unfillable.
