SANCHEZ, JUANITA M. age 65, a resident of Albuquerque, died on Saturday, April 19, 2014 after a short illness. Juanita was born in Albuquerque to parents Hilario and Flora Sanchez on July 12, 1948. The family had strong ties with the military. Hilario was captured by the Germans in France in 1944 during WWII. He was sent to Stalig XII as a POW until wars end. Juanita, also an American Patriot, served in two military branches. United States Air Force as an NCO and a commissioned officer in the United States Army. Well educated, she received a Masters degree in Human Resources. Upon military discharge, Juanita was employed by Sandia National Laboratories working in two fields, initially as a precision machinist and completing her career in human resources. Retiring after 24 years of service. Juanita was an extremely active person. She enjoyed bicycling, running and walking for fitness. Juanita's true passion was a lifelong love of poetry. She was both a student and teacher of poetry. Civic minded, she volunteered her services at senior centers. The North Valley Senior Center where she coordinated the "Voices of the Valley" poetry group. She was also an accomplished Flute player. As a result of her accomplishments, she has received numerous awards and honors. Juanita was truly an exceptional individual. She is survived by her sister Victoria V. Eichenberg of Albuquerque. A memorial service celebrating Juanita's life will be held at Nahalat Shalom, 3606 Rio Grande NW, Sunday, April 27, 2014 at 2:00pm. Arrangements are being handled by Direct Funeral Services.
