Obituary for CLARENCE

CLARENCE, FRED W. Fred W. Clarence, age 82, passed away on March 8, 2014, after a brief illness in the Presbyterian Hospital, Albuquerque, New Mexico. Fred was born March 23, 1931, in Henry, Illinois (Marshall County), to Fred and Blanche Lutes Clarence. He is survived by a niece, Joan Streitmatter Scoon of Sparland, Illinois; a nephew, Wayne Hill of East Moline, Illinois; and brother-in-law Dewey McLehaney of Albuquerque, New Mexico. He was predeceased by sisters Mildred Bergantz, Irene Streitmatter, Frances Hill, and Betty McLehaney, and a nephew, Ted Streitmatter. After graduating from Henry High School, Fred served two years in the U.S. Army at Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and Fort Bliss, Texas. Following his military service he entered St. Francis Hospitals Nursing Program at Peoria, Illinois, graduating Magna Cum Laude in 1957. He was one of the first two male students to graduate from St. Francis. Fred worked at the Veterans Hospitals in Fort Bayard, New Mexico, and Albuquerque, New Mexico, retiring after 30 years of service. Fred enjoyed living in the Southwest, particularly the Native Culture. His many friends and relatives have cherished his friendship and will be greatly missed by all. Cremation rites have been accorded. There will be no services as he requested.
