HOVDA, RUTH THECKLA Ruth passed away Saturday, March 22, 2014. She was born on September 5, 1923. Ruth T. Hovda will be remembered for her tremendous faith and love of God and how she was dedicated to her church, Hope Evangelical Free Church. Ruth was born to Maude and Vere Johnson in Tomah, Wisconsin where she was born and raised on the family cranberry marsh. She is preceded in death by her first-born son, Allen Jr., and the father of her children, Allen A. Hovda. Ruth is survived by her sister, Lida Sandquist; three sons, David and wife Cydney; Tim and wife Mary; Jim and wife Chris; and daughter, Betsy and husband Halsey; and grandchildren, Joshua, Maureen, Valerie, Robin, Matthew, and Sara. Ruth graduated from Wheaton College where she earned a bachelor's degree in English. Albuquerque became her home in 1959 where she was active in the community through work and volunteering at the Albuquerque Women's Medical Auxiliary and as a hospice caregiver. She enjoyed travel with family and friends and celebrated life in multiple journeys and endeavors. We will miss her passion for life, sweet spirit, love of laughter, and desire to make all things special. Ruth was an avid reader, sports fan and #1 supporter of her children and grandchildren's activities. The entire family would like to acknowledge the support and care provided by Brookdale Senior Living, Hospice of New Mexico, and her many friends. Cremation rights have been accorded. As per Ruth's wishes a burial service is scheduled for summer 2014 in Tomah, Wisconsin.
