Published in the Albuquerque Journal on Friday March 28, 2014

OTTINGER, LESLIE "LES" WADE age 87, passed away on March 24, 2014. He was born to Ily Macon Ottinger and Maude Ilene Violet Potter on April 30, 1926 in Midwest, WY and grew up in Greeneville, TN. He was the couple's second of four children. He was preceded in death by his infant brother, Neely Macon Ottinger and his mother-in-law, Della Cooper. Les is survived by his brother Lindy Earl Ottinger, Sr.; his sister, Saralaska Black and her husband, Bernie; and numerous nieces and nephews. Les also leaves behind Blanche, his wife of 51 years, who misses him dearly. Additionally, he is survived by the couple's daughter, Diana Lueras and his two grandchildren, Savannah and Christopher Lueras. Les proudly served on the U.S. Coast Guard Cutter Wachusett from 1949 to 1953. Afterwards, he returned to Greeneville and began dating Blanche. They dated for 10 years before marrying in 1963. Afterwards, Les' job with Frontier Airlines moved the couple and Blanche's mother, Della Cooper, to Moab, UT, where the family ran a honey and bee keeping business. Frontier then transferred them to Albuquerque, NM, where the family made their home for almost 50 years. While in Albuquerque, Les completed his Associates Degree in Engineering Technology and worked for several companies with his newfound degree. In his golden years he kept himself busy designing and selling business cards. Les loved science, technology, astronomy, writing, poetry, magic tricks, bolo ties and was a master at Sudoko. As much as he loved the southwest, Les felt his true home was in Greeneville. As he wished, his ashes will be interned in Tennessee. A memorial service followed by a lunch will be held at 12:00 noon on Saturday, April 5th, 2014 at 6128 Aldea Avenue, Albuquerque, NM 87114. Pastor Randy Walquist from Immanuel Lutheran Church will officiate. If you would like to attend the service, please call the church office at (505) 242-0616 so the family can make preparations for your presence.
