LEYBA, MANUEL Mr. Leyba, age 98, passed away on February 12, 2014. Manuel was preceded in death by his mother, Marie; sons: Victor, Manuel, and Matthew "Matty" Leyba; grandsons: Eugene and Brian Leyba; brothers: Andres, Polito, and Rafael Bernal; sisters: Lola, Pabla, and Umelia. He is survived by his wife of 75 years, Delfinia; children: Eugene and wife Rinna Leyba, Barbara and husband Mike Cogley, Lawrence, Johnny, and Alfred Leyba, and Charlene and husband Richard Montoya; 23 grandchildren, 50 great-grandchildren, and ten great-great grandchildren. He was a member of the Cement and Plaster's Union #254 for over 60 years. Manuel loved fishing and hunting and enjoyed planting in his garden. He also loved music and he especially loved playing his accordion. His nicknames were Shorty Leyba and Chale Chelo but his grandchildren knew him as Pop. He always finished his evening with a Budweiser and a shot of whiskey. Manuel's Life Celebration will begin with a Rosary on Friday at 6:00 p.m. at St. Therese Catholic Church. Mass of Christian Burial will be Saturday at 9:00 a.m. also at St. Therese followed by Burial at Mt. Calvary Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Johnny Leyba, Lawrence Leyba, Paul T. Leyba, Manuel (Manny) Leyba, Richard Montoya and Ernest Madrid. Honorary pallbearers will be Francisco Saavedra, Santiago Saavedra and Joshua Leyba.
