TUTTLE, LEON STEWART 1926 - 2013 A good man died December 29, 2013. Stewart grew up Stamford, CT, the eldest son of Leon and Ethel Tuttle, brother of Larry, husband of Dorothy, father of Cheryl, and grandfather of Cristine, He passed away during the early hours at home in Anderson South Carolina from cancer. Stewart's conviction was to be an honest kindly gentle man; he succeeded. He grew up playing football and was an avid NY Giants fan. In 1943, he joined the Navy where he proudly served in the Pacific Theatre on the USS Freestone; he drove a landing craft that ferried soldiers to shore. His ship docked at Nagasaki shortly after the atomic bomb was dropped on that city. After his military service, he apprenticed as a len's grinder for an optician. He obtained his opticians license and eventually bought New Canaan Optician; he retired in 1995. He met the love of his life, Dorothy Mazza upon his return from the Navy. Stewart and Dorothy shared a good life together, until Dorothy's passing in 2008. I have wonderful memories of our family vacations at the lake in Canada with my cousins and winter vacations in Florida with my grandparents. I have such fond memories of family and friends gathering over the years. My father is of a generation of men that is passing. A generation that stayed married, that stayed at their jobs, that were committed. We will miss you. His favorite charity was Paralyzed Veterans of America. 1410 Bryant Road, Anderson, SC 29621
