KERR, BILLY JEAN Age 85, died Thursday, January 9th, after a long illness. B.J., as he was known by family and friends, was born June 21, 1928 in Fletcher, OK. He graduated from high school in Lawton, OK and received a BA in Education from the University of Oklahoma. He moved to Albuquerque in 1962 and began his long career in Albuquerque Public Schools at Aztec Elementary School as a PE teacher. He later taught Special Education at Manzano High School where he will be remembered as a kind and caring advocate for those in his classes. During his retirement he especially enjoyed singing with the Young At Heart Choir, birdwatching at the family cabin in Taos, and playing with his beloved dogs. Perhaps his happiest moments were spent at the Hummingbird Music Camp where he called square dancing each weekend during the summers for many years. B.J. is survived by Patricia Kerr; as well as two step-daughters, Jennifer Burita of Alexandria, VA, and Julie Sturgeon of Littleton, CO; and two step-grandsons, Alex and Evan Burita. He is also survived by his daughter Cindy Kerr; grandsons Ian Sean Rory and Jason Hunton; granddaughter Amber Dix; and five great-grandchildren. A celebration of his life will be held at a future time. For those wishing to make a memorial gift, donations may be made to Animal Humane New Mexico.
