Published in the Albuquerque Journal on Friday October 11, 2013

ANDERSON, SANDRA L. age 76, passed away peacefully on Monday, September 30, 2013. She was born June 26, 1937, in Minneapolis, MN. Sandy is survived by her son, David Anderson and his partner, Karen Wood; daughter, Darla Cannon; former daughter-in-law and close friend, Norma Anderson; sister, Sharon Imes and her partner, Dick, of Fernwood, ID; and three grandchildren, Daniel Cannon, Ashley Anderson, and Sean Anderson. She was preceded in death by her mother Gladys McAleese and father Gordon Johnson. Sandy moved to Albuquerque in 1969 with her mother and two children. Soon after arriving in Albuquerque, she started working at Sandia National Laboratories to support her small family, and she remained at Sandia until her retirement in 1997. She began making ceramics at the Palo Duro Senior Center, and her hobby quickly evolved into a passion as she decorated her house with many of her proudest works. Sandy was a private person who never needed much to be happy. She enjoyed desserts, playing solitaire, watching The Price is Right and Wheel of Fortune and reading the Sue Grafton Mysteries. Sandy will be remembered most of all as a devoted mother, daughter, sister, grandmother, and friend; as a tender and loving soul who yearned for the bonds of family; and as a proud and courageous woman who always took care of business. A memorial service will be held for Sandy at Unity Spiritual Center (9800 Candelaria NE ABQ, NM 87112) on Saturday, October 12, at 2:00 p.m.
