Obituary for VILLELA

VILLELA, ANN YELLEN (1944-2013) Ann Yellen Villela passed away on July 17, 2013, in San Juan Cosala, Jalisco, Mexico. Ann was born in New York on April 26, 1944. She attended New York University, graduating in 1966, with an art education degree. She moved to Mexico the same year, and earned an MFA in Studio Art at the Universidad de las Americas. She married Rene David Villela Segura in 1968. The family lived in Mexico City, and by the mid-1970s, in Baltimore, MD, where her sons attended high school. She moved to Algodones, NM in 1991, and taught the Montessori method in schools in the Santa Fe area for fifteen years. In 2006, she retired to house she built near Lake Chapala, Jalisco. She lived happily in Mexico, surrounded by her Mexican folk art, her gardens, and her beloved dogs and cats. She was preceded in death by her parents Theodore Yellen and Alice Yellen (Nowinski), and by her brother Theodore Yellen. She is survived by her sons Khristaan (Jennifer), Santa Fe, NM; Khari (Heather), Apex, NC; and by her grandchildren Octavio and Imogen. She is also survived by ex-husband, David Villela, Philadelpha, PA. A celebration of her life is planned for August 21st in Mexico, and another in New Mexico later.
