 VALVERDE, AMALIA G. Age 94, passed away in her family home in Ponderosa, NM on Tuesday, July 23, 2013. She was preceded in death by her husband, Frank "Cico" Valverde; parents, Pedro Gonzales and Isabel Sharkley; infant daughter, Jeanette Valverde; siblings, Jose Leon Gonzales, Candelaria Baca, Pedro Gonzales, Jr.; son-in-law, Robert Strain; grandmother, Maria Angela Vigil (Sotela Sharkley). Amalia is survived by her children, Frances Strain of Canon, NM, Rosalie Niebes and husband Neil of Albuquerque, NM, John Valverde and wife Shirley of Rio Rancho, NM, Elizabeth Loya of Ponderosa, NM; sister, Benigna Montoya of Albuquerque, NM; grandchildren, Jenette Heinsen of Sequim, WA, Bobby Bottomley of Albuquerque, NM, Laura Perea of Ponderosa, NM, Kevin Bottomley of Kona, HI, Lynette Manzanares of Albuquerque, NM, John Loya of Ponderosa, NM; great-grandchildren, Katherine Perea, Kourtney Bottomley, Arthur Trujillo, Frank Perea, Luken Bottomley, Esteban Manzanares, Diana Manzanares, Alexa Loya. She was born in Magdalena, NM and moved to Vallecitos, NM as a young girl when her father took a job in the logging industry. Her passions in life were her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. She was a devoted mother who read to her children daily, spoke English to them, and provided books and other educational materials so they could have an easier life than she did. She was also a member of the Santo Toribio Catholic Church in Ponderosa, NM. A Rosary will be celebrated at 11:00 am followed with the Mass at 11:30 am, Saturday, August 3, 2013 at Santo Toribio Catholic Church, Ponderosa, NM. A Gathering will be held at the Ponderosa Community Hall immediately follow the services.
