Obituary for GORDON

GORDON, LAVERNE EDMUND Age 86, a resident of Albuquerque for 11 years, died Monday, June 24, 2013. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Shirley Gordon; daughter, Carolyn Gordon; and numerous other relatives and friends. Laverne was preceded in death by his parents, John and Palameda A. Gordon; and son, Kevin Wells Gordon. He was born in 1926 in Ross, CA and graduated from Tamalpais High School in Mill Valley, CA. He joined the United States Navy the day after his graduation and proudly served during WWII. Laverne then returned to Mill Valley and attended Golden Gate University in San Francisco where he received his BBA in Business Administration. He married Shirley Wells in 1949 and they spent 64 wonderful years together. Laverne worked for Stauffer Chemical Company in San Francisco and New York City where he was in the International Division, traveling all over the world. After 25 years he went to work for the Fine Arts Museums Foundation of San Francisco where he served as their fiscal officer until his retirement. After moving to Albuquerque to be close to their daughter, Laverne and Shirley were members of Christ the Ray of Hope Lutheran Church. Laverne was a generous and thoughtful man who was loyal and committed to his family and work. Laverne did a lot of volunteer work in his retirement. He was a loving husband and father and will be deeply missed by all who knew him. Cremation will take place and a Memorial Service will be held on Monday, July 8, 2013 at 10:30 a.m. at Christ the Ray of Hope Lutheran Church, 7001 San Antonio NE, with Pastor Harold Johnson officiating. Interment will take place at Santa Fe National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Laverne's name to the charity of your choice.
