Published in the Albuquerque Journal on Tuesday July 02, 2013

KERGAN, ALETHEA L. Age 91, a longtime resident of Albuquerque, died peacefully on June 30, 2013. She was born on June 10, 1922 and is survived by her daughters, Judith L. Wagner and husband John S. Wagner, and Frances E. Farrah; as well as her grandchildren, John K. Wagner, Amelia J. Wagner and Mary E. Farrah. Mrs. Kergan was preceded in death by her husband, Frank D. Kergan in 1991, and her oldest daughter, Alethea K. Garcia, in 2008. Mrs. Kergan was born in Huntsville, Alabama and traveled throughout the United States with her husband while he served in the U.S. Air Force. After Frank's retirement, they settled in Albuquerque. During her lifetime she was an active member of the Air Force Retired Officers Wives Club as well as Church of Christ and other church ministries in Florida and New Mexico. Mrs. Kergan was a devoted homemaker and a master seamstress and baker. She excelled in sewing and made an exquisite lace and satin wedding gown for her daughter Judith, which she beaded entirely by hand. Mrs. Kergan was also known for her baking skills, which always drew a crowd of children to her house on bread-baking days. Her Southern fried chicken was a favorite with her family and friends. After her husband's death, Mrs. Kergan was fortunate to live semi-independently in her own home until shortly before her death. The family wishes to thank the doctors, nurses and staff at Kaseman Hospice for providing such loving, respectful care to Mrs. Kergan during her hospitalization. Their assistance and support gave the entire family great comfort and peace. A private committal service and interment will be held at Santa Fe National Cemetery.
