Published in the Albuquerque Journal on Saturday March 09, 2013

LAUSER, MARTHA LOUISE lived 92 full and active years. She was born September 5, 1920 in Chariton, Iowa and died on March 2nd, 2013 in Albuquerque, New Mexico surrounded by love, in the home of her son. Marta lived the last 30 years of her life in her beloved Ponderosa, NM in the Jemez mountains. Marta had a life-long love affair with horses and rode until she was in her 70s. She was an avid gardener and planter of trees, resulting in an oasis in the desert. She was an adventurous cook and seamstress. She had a degree from the University of New Mexico in Physical Education with a minor in Southwest History. Marta raised her family in the North Valley of Albuquerque, along with chickens, dogs, cats, horses, cows, guineas, turkeys, rabbits and pigeons! She helped organize and create libraries at Mission Elementary School and at Harwood United Methodist Church, where she was an active member for over 50 years. Marta was a founding member of the Albuquerque Association for Retarded Children, now known as the ARCA Foundation. Because of her daughter Sue, she recognized and worked to help establish opportunities and support for families and their children with developmental delays. She enjoyed reading, especially Western novels, and did so until the last weeks of her life. She valued natural and healthy living. Some might have called her a health nut! She was preceded in death by her parents, Scott and Ethel Hulick, her husband, Kent Lauser, her son, Dean, daughter Sue, and her only sibling, Ray Hulick. She is survived by three children, Kenna del Sol, Linda Hunter and Don Lauser and their spouses. Marta had six grandchildren, Tony Jarvis, Markom Jones, Ohnah Brown, Ariel Arndt, and Jedediah and Austin Holler. She had seven great-grandchildren, Akira Fosse Jones, Alexis Brown, Fiona and Kaya Jarvis, Aaliyah and Kallan Arndt, and one "on the way" Holler. A Memorial service will be held at Harwood United Methodist Church, 420 San Lorenzo NW, on March 10th, at 3:00 pm. Donations can be made in her name to ARCA Foundation, or The Ranches (formerly known as The New Mexico Boy's and Girl's Ranches). You may go to www.danielsfuneral.com to leave condolences.
