He was born February 3, 1927 in Rocky, Oklahoma on the family farm where he worked until joining the US Army in 1945. He proudly served his country during WWII. Gerald was a musician, playing with various bands and owned Ace Plumbing Company. He touched the lives of everyone he met with his kind heart, infectious laugh and sense of humor. He is survived by his loving wife of 36 years, Millie; brother, Jim Vermilion and wife Teresa; sister, Joyce Swinford; a son, Mike Vermilion and wife Ruth; three daughters, Vickie McCullough and husband Tom, Janice Eisenberg and husband Gary, Susie Gonzales and husband Dennis; eight grandchildren; & 11 great-grandchildren. The family would like to express their deep gratitude for all the kind gentle care from Sandia Hospice, and we thank everyone for your thoughts and prayers during this difficult time. In lieu of flowers, please contribute in Gerald's memory to Watermelon Mountain Ranch or The Animal Humane Association to help homeless pets. As per Gerald's wishes, there will be no services. Papa will remain forever in the hearts of those who loved him. In words from his grandchildren, Helen and Adam, "We love you to the moon and stars and back again".
