Obituary for MCCLINTIC

Published in the Albuquerque Journal on Sunday February 24, 2013

MCCLINTIC, JAMES "JIM" ROBERT was born in Albuquerque, New Mexico on May 7, 1949, and after a short battle with cancer passed away on February 15, 2013. He spent many summers as a teenager working at the Valla Grande as a rancher and cowboy. In his spare time he enjoyed riding horses, fishing and hunting. From those early days, Jim felt at home when he was involved with any pursuit relating to nature. Jim was also involved with his family's passion of professional drag racing over the years as an owner and driver. He spent a majority of his life working multiple businesses, including JMS Construction, was a licensed building contractor, yet his heart was dedicated to the wild and prized race horses. He was an avid hunter and angler and was a strong advocate for the Second Amendment. In January 2007, he began to pursue his passion by way of the New Mexico Game Commission. Governor Bill Richardson appointed Jim to his first position within the New Mexico State Game Commission in January 2007. In January of 2009, he was appointed Chairman of the New Mexico State Game Commission; a position in which he excelled and holds today. One of Jim's personal triumphs was the overseeing and development of the San Juan Fish Hatchery. Jim was a lifetime member of New Mexico Trout, served on the New Mexico Economic Development Commission during Governor Garrey Carruthers' administration, served on Albuquerque Mayor Martin Chavez' Transition Team, and acted as chairman of the Albuquerque Municipal Development Sustainable Enhancement Team. Throughout Jim's life, he was eager to support local Albuquerque high schools' booster clubs, and was always willing to lend a helping hand to whoever needed it. During holidays he would help out at Joy Junction feeding the needy. He treated people with dignity and utmost respect. He was one of those "handshake was his word" type of guys. Jim will be remembered, missed, and always loved by the many people he touched. He is survived by his brother John McClintic; sister-in-law, Patricia McClintic; nephew, Jeff McClintic and wife Kim; nieces, Michelle and Erin McClintic; grandnephew, Paxton McClintic; three grandnieces, Kayleigh, Nataleigh, and Presleigh McClintic. Respecting Jim's final wishes, a private family burial has taken place. He was laid to rest at Gate of Heaven Cemetery on February 22, 2013. A memorial mass for Jim will be held Friday, March 1, 2013 at 10:00 AM at John XXIII Catholic Community, 4831 Tramway Ridge Drive NE, Albuquerque, NM 87111.
