HOLLAND, MARGARITA ROSABEL "ROSE" age 81, of Albuquerque NM and a long time resident of Taos, NM, left us on Wednesday, January 23, 2013 after a short but courageous battle against breast cancer, with her husband and children by her side. Rose was born to Norberto and Emma Saavedra on October 11, 1931 in Santa Fe NM. She was educated in Taos, at Santa Fe Lorretto Academy, and also Lorretto Heights College in Denver, where she studied education. Denver is where she met her future husband of 48 years, John Holland. The couple started their family in Denver prior to returning to Rose's ancestral home of Taos. Rose loved gardening, being a teacher for twenty plus years, and being a merchant at the family's Rexall drug store on the plaza in Taos. She was a member of Las Taosenas Social Club, a Mayordomo at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church, and recently a member of the St. Jude Knit and Stitch Club. Rose was loved by many and will be missed by her family, friends and former students. She will be remembered for her love of life, her fun loving spirit, and her wry sense of humor. Rose was a soul who filled her world, and more importantly, the people in it, with light. She was preceded in death by her parents and sister, Carlotta Apodaca. She is survived by her husband, John; daughter, Mariann Holland-Rivera and husband, Carlos; son, John "Jack" Holland and wife, Dora; grandchildren, Lucas and Thomas Rivera, Derek and Sophia Holland; sister, Martha Garland; and numerous nephews, nieces and grand nephews and nieces. A Rosary will be recited in Albuquerque, at St. Jude Thaddeus Catholic Church, on Wednesday, February 6, 2013 at 6:00pm.
